What You May Not Know About Anxiety Neurosis

Anxiety neurosis is a kind of anxiety disorder that is characterized by constant and irrational feeling of eminent danger, fear, frustration, or worry about something.  According to studies, this condition is very common to people with above-average level of intelligence.  People with this anxiety disorder find it hard to cope with everyday’s challenges.  They perceive slightly stressful things as difficult situations.  Because of this, they tend to be anxious and more often than not, they tend to lose control.  It’s like their reactions on everyday’s trials are inappropriate to the cause of the situation.

There are different kinds of anxiety disorders and the symptoms as well as the causes are very similar that it has become extremely hard to distinguish one from the others.  Anxiety neurosis is the most common kind of psychoneurosis.  Psychoneurosis or neurosis is a mental disorder that involves feeling of distress but the symptoms do not include hallucinations and delusions that are common to psychotic individuals.  The symptoms of this anxiety disorder are more noticeable on the behavior of the sufferer.

Repression of Sexual Need Can Trigger Anxiety Neurosis

It has been mentioned that the said disorder is most common to people with superior level of aptitude.  Nonetheless, there has been no strong evidence showing the relationship of the brain chemistry to the occurrence of neurotic anxiety.  It is said that repression of sexual need is one of the triggering aspects of neurotic anxiety.  Repression happens when one’s self-esteem or ego has not been fully developed.  The desires, needs, and wants of the person are represses or excluded from his conscious mind and placed in the subconscious.  Repression may be forcefully done through medical intervention or it can naturally occur especially if the person has gone through a very traumatic experience.

Panic Attacks can be an Indication of Anxiety Neurosis

Panic attacks refer to a series of intense fear or apprehension over something that usually last for a very short period of time.  It’s a sudden reaction to an event, feeling, or emotion that a person is too anxious about.  People who are suffering from neurotic anxiety usually experience panic attacks.  Because of the extreme feeling of fear, they can’t seem to control their behavior and the only way to release the tension is to burst out in horror.  Other symptoms of anxiety neurosis  include increased heart rate, excessive sweating, diarrhea, rapid weight loss, decreased sexual desire, dry lips, and facial pallor.

Sufferers Think They’re Inferior Even When They’re Really Not

One of the common problems with people who have high IQ is that most of them have low EQ or emotional intelligence.  It’s very hard for them to face failures. Small mistakes are a big deal for them.  There’s a sense of inferiority that arises from the inability to determine frustrations.  Another factor that affects the possibility of developing anxiety neurosis  is the environment.  Children who grew up in a stressful environment have high risk of developing anxiety disorders.

Even though anxiety neurosis is a serious condition, it can be treated using several methods. These include psychotherapy, natural therapies (breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga), drug therapy (use of antidepressants, benzodiazepines, etc), exposure therapy, and self-help treatments.
